How to Contact Experts to Enhance Your Work

You’ve worked long and hard to build your solution to whatever problem you’re trying to solve. But how do you know for sure that your solution is foolproof? Finding and figuring out flaws in your solution shouldn’t have to be hard. Here are a few simple steps to get an interview with an expert.

Step One: Find an Expert.
Trust me, it really is simple. It doesn’t take lots of research to find an expert in the field either! You can utilize AI tools to find you the names or emails of in field workers or professors. You can get names of experts, and by then putting them back into a search engine, you can find their email, phone number, and more details about them.
Simply read over the public information that can be found on the internet to conform that you are contacting the right expert for your solution.

Step Two: Contact Your Expert
Once you know who you would like feedback from, shoot them a quick email. Explain your solution simply and request and interview, or explain your solution in detail and ask for them to reply via email. I would personally recommend asking for an interview. This is because an interview allows you to ask follow up questions and show off your solution more thoroughly.
You can use this simple format:

Dear Ms/Mr ( ),
My name is ( ) and I am part of the ( ) group. We were wondering if we could get some of your feedback on a solution we made for ( )?
The ( ) group is ( ) and what we do in it is ( ). We built a solution to solve ( ) and it works like ( ). [ Keep the explanation of your solution simple ]. My group was wondering if we could have an interview to get some feedback on how to improve? [ List specific parts you need help with if you have any. ] We are available (whenever works for you.) [ Put your preferred time slot if you have any. ]
Thank you for your time!
Sincerely,
( Your Name ) & ( Your Group )

Pro Tip: Use your personal email! College professors and other experts get a lot of emails every day, and using an organization’s email will make it seem more like an advertisement, which makes it less likely for them to even click on your email. Also, email it on a weekday. Never, never, NEVER email someone on a weekend, mainly Sunday night. This is because they will probably check their email on mornings, and emailing them over the weekend or at night can get your email buried at the bottom of their inbox.

Step Three: Wait
Yes, it’s annoying to have to wait, but constantly spamming people is not a good way to get a response. Contact multiple experts at a time so you will have a better chance of getting a response. Plus, the more feedback you get, the better your solution gets! If you don’t get a response in 1 – 2 weeks, you could do a follow up, but after that, I recommend looking for another expert.
