Competition day was exciting, chaotic, and honestly a little stressful, but in the best way. After weeks of building, coding, testing, researching, practicing, and fixing things at the last possible second, we finally got to bring everything to the competition.
When we arrived, we set up our pit area and made sure our robot, attachments, laptop, project materials, and judging supplies were ready. There was a lot going on around us, with teams testing robots, decorating tables, practicing presentations, and getting ready for judging. It was really cool to see how every team had a different idea, design, and strategy.
Judging Session
One of the biggest parts of the day was our judging session. We presented our Innovation Project, explained our robot design, and talked about our Core Values. We shared how Tele-Paleo works, how volunteers can sort fossils remotely, and how AutoSort helps the system learn over time.
The judges asked us questions about our solution, our robot, and how we worked as a team. Not even going to lie, some of the questions were quite hard to answer, so in the future, we would like to practice Q&A more often.
Robot Game
The robot game was definitely one of the most exciting parts of the day. Watching our robot run on the official table felt very different from practice. Some missions worked the way we hoped, and some did not go exactly as planned, because of course the robot decided to have its own personality.
Even when things did not go perfectly, we stayed focused and kept going. Each run gave us a chance to learn, adjust, and improve.
What We Learned
Competition day taught us that FLL is not just about having a perfect robot run. It is about problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and staying calm when things do not go exactly how you imagined.
We learned that preparation matters, but flexibility matters too. Sometimes you have to adjust quickly, help your teammates, and keep a good attitude even when something unexpected happens.
Final Thoughts
Overall, competition day was a great experience. We got to share our work, learn from other teams, and see how much we had grown throughout the season. We are proud of everything we accomplished, from our robot design to our Innovation Project to the way we worked together as a team.
Even though the season had challenges, competition day reminded us why FLL is so fun. It gave us a chance to celebrate our hard work and see how far we had come.
